Artistic Directorship

With Antje Weithaas and Oliver Wille, the Foundation of Lower Saxony has appointed two exceptional violinists to head the renowned Joseph Joachim Violin Competition in 2019. Prof. Krzysztof Wegrzyn, founder and former artistic director, will remain closely connected to the competition as Honorary President.

The primary motivation for Antje Weithaas to take over the artistic direction of the Joseph Joachim Violin Competition together with Oliver Wille was to offer violinists a platform with many opportunities for advancement. With this very competition, to which she herself owes so much, she wants to find and support versatile, inquisitive artists.

The challenge of leading the renowned Joseph Joachim's Violin Competition in his adopted country into the future together with Antje Weithaas is a challenge that he dedicates himself to with many ideas and, above all, with the goal of enabling the next generation of cultural workers to make their way onto the concert podium through new creative networks and cooperation.
