Johannes Schöllhorn

Johannes Schöllhorn is a composer and conductor. He has been awarded many prizes in composition competitions. In 1995 he won an award from the Reading Panel of the Ensemble Intercontemporain. His chamber opera ‹les petites filles modèles› had its premiere at the Opéra Bastille in Paris in 1997. Besides composing himself, Johannes Schöllhorn also works on various kinds of transcription and arrangement. In 2009 he has been awarded the Prætorius Prize for Composition of Lower Saxony by the Ministery for Science and Culture of Lower Saxony.

He taught at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Winterthur-Zurich from 1995 to 2000 and was a Professor for Composition at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media from 2001 to 2009. With the winter semester 2009/10 he moved to the Hochschule für Musik Köln. Johannes Schöllhorn has given several composition courses, for example at Fondation Royaumont in France and the Bartók Festival in Hungary. He has given courses at the Ictus Seminar, Belgium, the Conservatoire de Paris, the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and the Takefu Festival and the Tokyo Ondai University of Music in Japan. In 2008 he was artist in residence in Hong Kong for the ›into‹-project of the Ensemble Modern and the Siemens Arts Program.
