Dongyoung Jake Shim

Violinist Dongyoung Jake Shim gained international recognition most recently winning 1st Prize and Bach Prize at the 2020 Stulberg International String Competition in Michigan. After winning 4th Prize at the 2020 Irving M. Klein International String Competition in San Francisco, he was one of the Finalists at the 2020 Lillian and Maurice Barbash J. S. Bach Competition.
In the upcoming season, he will make his debut as a soloist with the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra and Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra. He also gave debut performances on three different continents including venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Jordan Hall, and Alice Tully Hall. He has has been invited to many chamber music festivals including the Perlman Music Program and Heifetz International Music Institute.
He currently studies violin with Donald Weilerstein at the New England Conservatory. He is a member of the LGT Young Soloists and a recipient of the Tan Family Education Grant and Dean’s Scholarship at NE.
