Terms and Conditions of Participation

The competition is seeking applicants from all nations who were born between September 29th, 1991, and September 16th, 2008.

Applications must be received online no later than March 31st, 2024, at midnight (CET). The procedure for the application will be announced in December 2023.
Applications that do not meet these requirements in full may be rejected.
Receipt of complete applications will be confirmed via email until April 15th, 2024.

The 24 competitors of the Joseph Joachim Violin Competition 2024 will be selected, among others, by the principals of the NDR Radiophilharmonie Orchestra based on your uploaded video files.

All competitors will be notified by May 21st, 2024, via email.

Approved competitors must confirm their participation in writing and transfer the participation fee of EUR 100 to the bank account of Stiftung Niedersachsen.

The competition consists of five rounds. All competitors will play preliminary round 1 (solo violin) and preliminary round 2 (violin and piano). Eight competitors will reach the semifinal round.

Semifinalists will play the repertoire in the first round with Munich Chamber Orchestra, in the second with piano, the Kuss Quartet and on own choice with further musicians. Three semifinalists will reach the final round.

Every finalist performs the commissioned work as well as a violin concerto with the NDR Radiophilharmonic Orchestra.

All decisions regarding the advancement of competitors will be made by an international jury based on an evaluation system that is binding for all competition sessions. All jury decisions are final and cannot be appealed.

All competitors must register in person at the competition office in Hanover on September 14th, 2024.

The order of performance will be determined by a randomized draw that will take place during the opening ceremony on September 15th, 2024, from 5 p.m. All competitors must be present in person at the time of the draw unless an authorized representative has been sent in their place. The drawn order of performance will remain valid until the end of the competition.

In case of force majeure, the order may be changed. This decision will be made by the jury and only applies to the respective session.

Starting on September 14th, 2024, the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media will open its doors to allow for rehearsal opportunities.

Respected pianists will offer their services as competition accompanists free of charge for competitors. Alternatively, competitors may bring accompanists at their own expense.

There will be one rehearsal with the Kuss Quartet regarding the movement of the string quartet. With the Munich Chamber Orchestra and the NDR Radiophilharmonie Orchestra there will be two rehearsals.

All competitors are eligible to receive a travel allowance. In order to be reimbursed for your travel costs, please present your travel documents at the competition office in Hanover. The maximum reimbursement amount will be determined on July 1st, 2024, based on cheapest flight or train connection to and from Hanover available in Germany.

Due to our sustainability concept, we do not reimburse costs for flights within Germany, unless they are transit flights.

All competitors will be provided with free accommodations with Hanover host families between September 13th and 29th, 2024. If requested, hotel accommodations may be arranged for competitors and accompanying persons at the expense of the competitors.

All competitors agree to take part in the concert series "The competition across the state" on September 26th, 2024, if requested, unless they have been selected to perform for the final round.

Furthermore, the prize winners agree to give up to two free concerts for the benefit of the Stiftung Niedersachsen upon request. In this case, Stiftung Niedersachsen will cover travel and accommodation costs.

As the host of the competition, Stiftung Niedersachsen reserves the right to stream all competition performances free of charge. Additionally, the host reserves the right to produce video and audio recordings of these performances, which may be commercially used and broadcasted at any time and via all available national and international media channels.

Competitors agree to have their photographs, addresses and further contact details saved and forwarded to third parties. Additionally, these details may appear nationally and internationally in print and on the websites of Stiftung Niedersachsen and the WFIMC at any time.
